Made in PRC

A friend recently successfully forced me to go shopping with her. While she was buying this Chi Chi face powder, I noticed something interesting – the box read ‘Made in PRC‘ instead of the usual Made in China, referring to the country’s official name, Peoples Republic of China .
It’s a clever way to get over the ‘Made in China’ perception. Especially for something like make up, where consumers look for quality.
Writing the product’s country of origin is legally required in most countries and companies like Apple have also tried to overcome this issue by writing “Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China.
Hmmm…I am now curious if this little trick really works! When I asked her if it mattered, she said she only cares about the brand and not where it was made.
One Response to “Made in PRC”
Quite true, few consumers care about where a product is made, branding is king.
